H.H. Penor Rinpoche's teaching on Avalokiteshwara practice
Any one whoever he or she prays single-mindedly the great compassionate one (Bodhisattva Avalokiteshwara) and chant Om Mani Padme Hum regularly, it has great benefit like achieving happiness while in the samsara temporarily and ultimately reborn in the pure realm of the great compassionate one with pure heart of bodhicitta (the generation of enlightened mind). Therefore, one must try to recite Mani mantra as much as possible and abide by the karmic law of cause and effect as whatever we do either positive or negative actions there is the karmic law performing. Because if you do perform a small positive action there is the fruit of happiness and if you commit a negative action there is also the result of suffering. It is very important to contemplate the nature of cause and effect and accordingly abide by performing positive actions and avoiding negative actions. Especially one must avoid the negative emotions like anger, arrogance, etc, because once we arouse the five negative emotions, it is going to cause us unhappiness in this and also in the after lives.
These negative emotions are without any benefits and are always harmful. So, we must always be careful not to be influenced by them. We should deal with others - either they are family members or neighbors, whoever they are – bearing smile and speak with soft voice. Whatever things we have in mind to do, we should not communicate aggressively but rather with natural born mind of enlightenment, love and compassion. Particularly, the tantric teachings have great blessings. We should visualize ourselves the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshwara and recite the mantra. If we practice whateverteachings in union with the deities' mind, then the practice will be efficient and powerful. Please practice as I have said.
Then, it is very important to devote again and again whatever merits and virtues we attain for the benefit of our parents sentient beings in the boundless space. Without devoting the merits, our practice will not be effective. The devotion of the merits must be completed without any discriminating negative emotions of attachment towards relatives and anger towards enemies, without thinking that that is my enemy and this is my relative. One of the most important points is to love others as much as possible however others try to hurt us. Therefore, we should avoid the negative emotions and keep peace of mind. When we have peace in our mind that is the tranquility of mind. Therefore, please be mindful.
